(UPDATE) FOUR Filipino track and field athletes brought home medals from the 2024 SEA Youth Athletics Championships in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.The Philippine delegation won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals from the meet.Javelin thrower Ana Bhianca Espenilla won the gold medal at the girls' javelin event, throwing at 49.33 meters.Steeplechasers Jerico Cadag and Jhul Ian Canalita won a silver and a bronze medal in the boys' 2,000-meter (m) steeplechase.Cadag clocked at 6:16.38, while Canalita tallied at 6:20.93, while Vietnam's Luong Xuan Son won gold with a time of 6:15.21.Fresh off a Batang Pinoy record, Courtney Jewel Trangia won the bronze medal at the girls' discus event, throwing at 38.20 m, behind silver medalist Ului Pauline of Malaysia (38.36 m) and Loain Paphatson of Thailand (39.10 m).Thailand won the overall championship of this event, with 14 gold, six silver and six bronze medals (26 total medals), followed closely by hosts Malaysia (10 gold, 17 silver, 15 bronze), who took home the most medals (42 total medals).
