SEN. Cynthia Villar's infamous tirade, berating civil servants at the Department of Agriculture over their alleged fixation on research and her overt disdain for research work, will always come back to haunt her.
During the Senate's deliberations for the 2025 proposed budget of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), where Villar was the principal sponsor, Sen. Raffy Tulfo took to task the agency for the it is handling the Masungi Georeserve. What particularly drew the ire of Senator Tulfo was the fact that while two quarry operators were invited by the DENR to take part in an event related to its Transform Project, which it touts as its response to foster a multi-stakeholder approach to managing the reserve, the Masungi Georeserve Foundation Inc. (MGFI) which manages the Masungi Geopark Project (MGP) as per a 2017 memorandum of agreement between MGFI and the DENR, was not invited.
