THE peso closed a centavo short of again hitting a record low on Monday even as bargain-hunting allowed the stock market to post a rebound.

The currency weakened by 12 centavos to P58.99 against the dollar while the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) added 69.87 points, or 1.03 percent, to end the day at 6,850.00.
