FIDE Master Mario Mangubat of Cebu was crowned champion in the 65 years old category of the rapid side event at the FIDE World Senior Chess Championships on Saturday at Hotel Baleira in Porto Santo Island, Portugal.

The 66-year-old Mangubat scored 4.5 points in six rounds to rule the tournament, one day after placing third in the blitz side event.
