THROUGH an agreement between OceanaGold (Philippines) Inc. (OGP) and Diwata Women in Resource Development Inc. (Diwata), some students in Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino will get boost in their science learing, as the two organizations forged a tieup for capability building of science teachers in Baguio City on Nov. 21, 2024.

OGP president and general manager for external affairs and socail performance and Diwata past president Joan Cattiling said that the partnership aims to "provide an avenue for science teachers to bridge the gap in understanding scientific information and inspire appropriate action."

Diwata is a non-government organization advocating the responsible development of the Philippines' wealth in resources and promotion of initiatives and to protect the land and its communities.

Cattiling signed the agreement for the Geoscience Information and Action Campaign for Science Teachers with current Diwata president Eleanore Layug.

She added that the program will empower the teachers with suitable training and teaching manuals.

"This will effectively teach relevant and relatable scientific information to students and communities in OGP's host municipalities of Kasibu in Nueva Vizcaya and Cabarroguis, Quirino," Cattiling said.

The MoA signing coincided with the 70th Annual National Mine Safety and Environment Conference on Nov. 19 to 22 at the CAP-John Hay Trade and Cultural Center in Baguio City.

Witnessing the signing of the memorandum of agreement included engineer Michael Cabalda, Department of Environment and Natural Resources assistant secretary for mining concerns and concurrent director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau; and Diwata chairman and former foreign affairs secretary Delia Albert.
