IN an event of appropriate fanfare in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija, on Thursday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led the ceremonial groundbreaking for the MTerra Solar Project, which MTerra, the Department of Energy and the President himself hailed as the "world's largest" solar project. The facility, which will cover 3,500 hectares stretching across five municipalities in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan, will add 3.5 gigawatts (GW) of solar generation capacity and 4.5 GW of battery energy storage to the country's energy mix when fully completed by 2027.
