LET me give just one example of what scientific discovery has given us that you don't even think about: zips. It was developed by Gideon Sundback, a Swedish-American electrical engineer in 1913. Who doesn't have a zip on something today? In that same year, Henry Ford installed the first moving assembly line for mass production. Pretty much everything we buy today was mass-produced based on that concept. We would not enjoy all the ever so many things in our houses today if they couldn't be mass-produced.
