THE Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Korea Marine Equipment Research Institute (Komeri) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to open a Training Center for Eco-Friendly Shipbuilding Specialists in the Philippines.

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said on Monday the training center, which would be funded by a five-year P330-million grant-based official development assistance from South Korea, will provide training on welding, electrician, scaffolding, painting and other shipbuilding-related skills to about 1,000 Filipinos and address the growing need for specialized skills in eco-friendly shipbuilding.
