(UPDATE) PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday expressed the Philippines' desire to further strengthen its ties with the United States in a "very good, friendly and productive" call with US President-elect Donald Trump.
"I was able to schedule a phone call to President-elect Donald Trump. I was able to talk to him, and he remembered the Philippines," Marcos told reporters in Catanduanes.
Marcos said he also expressed to Trump the Philippines' desire to further strengthen its alliance with the US.
"We talked about the alliance between the United States and the Philippines, and I expressed to him our continuing desire to strengthen that relationship," he said.
The President also disclosed that he was planning to meet with Trump "as soon as I can." "I also reminded the President-elect that Filipinos in America overwhelmingly voted for him. I'm sure he will remember it once we meet," he added.
