The Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain in the Philippines announced the successful visit of a high-level business delegation led by the Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA), which oversees the Port of Algeciras. The mission, held from Nov. 13 to 14, promoted collaboration between Spain and the Philippines in maritime services and trade.
The Port of Algeciras, Europe's fourth-largest port, handled an impressive 104.8 million tons of traffic in 2023. Located at the strategic Strait of Gibraltar — one of the busiest maritime passages globally — the port is widely recognized for its comprehensive services, including bunkering, ship repairs, crew changes, and leading-edge sustainability initiatives. Thanks to its prime geographical location and favorable climate conditions, the Port of Algeciras has positioned itself as a key player in Europe's green energy transition, with plans to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia.
