MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday raised Signal No. 5 has over the central portion of Aurora (Dipaculao, Baler, Dinalungan, Maria Aurora, Casiguran and San Luis), the southern portion of Quirino (Nagtipunan), and the southern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Alfonso Castañeda) as Super Typhoon Pepito maintained its strength ahead of landfall.
The center of the eye of the super typhoon was estimated over the coastal waters of Baler, Aurora while moving northwestward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 185 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 230 kph.
