ABOUT the post-election situation in the United States, our reaction can be encapsulated in two common expressions: "Vox populi, vox Dei" and "God bless America!"

Voter turnout in the last US presidential elections was higher than usual. It was not as heavy as in many other countries where voting is often mandatory and election day is an official holiday, but the US turnout was remarkable because voting is voluntary and election day is not a legislated nonworking day. Early voting and mail-in voting allowed in some states, of course, must have boosted the turnout numbers.
