MANILA, Philippines — A "potential catastrophe and life-threatening situation" looms as Super Typhoon "Pepito" moves closer to the Bicol region, with Signal No. 5 now up over the province of Catanduanes, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Saturday.

Under this condition, widespread damage is expected, Pagasa said in its 2 p.m. buletin.
