Clint Escamis threw a Hail Mary in the dying seconds of the clock, and his prayers were answered as Mapua University escaped the league-leader College of Saint Benilde, 75-73, in the NCAA 100 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Sunday, Nov. 10.
The Blazers held a 73-72 lead in the dying seconds of the clock and used a hard-nosed defense to prevent the Cardinals from scoring. But Escamis made a steal on Allen Liwag in the last 5.7 seconds of the game, and threw a Stephen Curry-range shot with 1.9 seconds remaining that changed the story.
"I am speechless right now. It just happened that it was really far, since the clock is also dwindling. I am so speechless," Escamis said.
Escamis finished the match with 26 points, four rebounds, five assists.
