College of Saint Benilde avenged its first-round loss against Colegio de San Juan Letran with an 83-78 victory in NCAA Season 100 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Friday, Nov. 8.
St. Benilde raised its league-best record to 13-2 and is one win away from clinching a twice-to-beat incentive in the semifinals.
The Blazers learned their lessons from their previous meeting against the Knight as they contained sniper Deo Cuajao from exploding from the three-point area.
"We worked on Jimboy Estrada, and Deo Cuajao since they are the go-to guys of Letran. And it's good that we're able to remain intact as a team despite our lousy first-quarter run," said Allen Liwag, who scored a game-high of 20 points for Saint Benilde.
Justine Sanchez added 16 points while Mark Sangco chipped in 11 points for the Blazers.
Cuajao, who scored 20 points against Saint Benilde in the first round, was limited to just 10 points in the game.
Letran, on the other hand, was led by Pao Javillonar who scored a career-high 31 points.
