AS of this writing, it is early Wednesday morning here in Manila, Tuesday evening in the US, about an hour before the first polls close in what has been the most frightening and destructive US presidential campaign of the 10 in which I've been an eligible voter. I will not be getting much work done today; I can assure you of that.

I think my political leanings are fairly well-known, so I am not going to get into that; the time for convincing anyone who has not made up their mind has passed anyway. Nor am I going to speculate on the outcome. I am fairly confident that my guess of what the results of the vote will be is reasonably correct, but again, there is no point in discussing that now. What happens after the results are in is anyone's guess. That should not be the case, but sad to say, we have already established the precedent that what we once conceitedly thought only happened in Third World countries could, in fact, happen in our own country, so whatever it is, it is not going to come as a surprise.
