MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez congratulated former United States President and now President-elect Donald Trump on his victory and hoped for a stronger relationship with its oldest treaty ally.

In a statement on Wednesday night, Romualdez said that Trump's leadership would bring opportunities to deepen ties between the Philippines and the US, especially on economic partnerships that would open doors for trade and investment which would benefit Filipinos.
