South Korean chip giant SK hynix reveals on Nov. 4, 2024 that it would produce the world's first 16-layer HBM3E chips and provide them in early 2025. The world's second-largest memory chip maker dominates the market for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) semiconductors and is a key supplier for US titan Nvidia. The announcement followed the company's statement in September that it began mass-producing the world's first 12-layer HBM3E product, which came just six months after the initial delivery of its HBM3E 8-layer product to customers in March.
