Mindanao gets even with Visayas in Oroquieta chess showdown

Reeling from its last year's defeat, Team Mindanao exacted revenge on Monday night, besting Team Visayas, 46-33, to highlight the opening of the 3rd Governor Henry S. Oaminal Open Chess Festival in Oroquieta City, Misamis Occidental.

Anchored by Fide Masters David Elorta, Christian Gian Carlo Arca and Austin Jacob Literatus in the open division, International Master Angelo Young in the seniors, and age group standouts National Master Keith Adrian Ilar, Jess Raphael Aballar, Princess Magallanes, Mary Janelle Tan, Rena Dalagan, Sebastian Marbas and Cyreine Jean Borce in the 17-under and 13-under categories, the Mindanaoan chessers dominated the blitz team matches in all corners of the fight.
