MANILA, Philippines — Former president Rodrigo Duterte on Monday defended his war on drugs as the Senate blue ribbon subcommittee started the investigation on his alleged "bloody" anti-drugs campaign.

Duterte was at the Senate upon the invitation of Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel III, chairman of the blue ribbon subcommittee, to shed light on his war on drugs amid allegations that it was tainted with extrajudicial killings.
