OCT. 27, 1947 marked a dark and pivotal moment in the collective memory of Kashmiris, a day that has since been commemorated as "Black Day." On this unfortunate day, the Indian government sent its troops to Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) against the will of the Kashmiri people. The date signaled the beginning of a prolonged struggle against illegal occupation by Indian forces. Each year, Pakistan, Kashmiris and their supporters worldwide observe this day to express solidarity with the people of India-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, who have endured decades of turmoil, oppression and ghastly human rights violations.
