Heavy Bombers end four-game misery, top Knights

MANILA, Philippines — Jose Rizal University ended its four-game winning drought after taking down Colegio de San Juan de Letran in a hard-fought 90-84 win in the second round of the NCAA 100 men's basketball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City on Saturday.


In the last 2:40 minutes of the fourth canto, Wayne De Leon muscled a bucket to give the Heavy Bombers a five-point lead, 82-77.
Jimboy Estrada responded with a jumper and Rafael Go made a one-hander shot for the Knights to trim the lead to one, 82-81
However, JRU made a 4-0 run with under two minutes remaining, 86-81, to gain the advantage.
With both teams already in foul trouble, the Heavy Bombers played meticulous in the dying seconds of the clock and held Deo Cuajao in captive to prevent him from scoring beyond the arc, 90-86.
Mart Barrera made a career-high performance of 22 points, while Joshua Guiab added 19.
Letran's Jimboy Estrada chipped in 29 points, while Jace Miller made 16.
