The love team culture in Philippine showbiz continues to thrive, and Hyacinth Callado and Gab Lagman, collectively known as 'HyGab,' have found themselves at the center of it following Studio Viva's popular series 'Chasing in the Wild' on Viva One.The adaptation of the third installment of Gwy Saludes' 'University Series' follows basketball captain Sevi (Lagman) and spoiled cheerleader Elyse (Callado) who, despite coming from different schools and being complete opposites, fall for each.Always trending on social media, 'Chasing in the Wild' and the HyGab love team have earned cheers among fans. Callado and Lagman have also gotten opportunities because of the show, including traveling around the country to meet their supporters in mall shows and other engagements. They were also special guests for various festivals in the country like the Peñafrancia Festival in Naga and the Kadayawan Festival in Davao. In a media conference, The Manila Times asked about their view on love teams, with both having a clear perspective on how they approach this unique aspect of the industry.Callado, who grew up in the US, noted how she was familiar with the concept even before starting her career in the Philippines. 'Even though I grew up in the US, I was a big fan of love teams like JaDine, LizQuen, and KathNiel,' she said. 'But at the end of the day, it's important to remember that they're people, and their personal lives are very different from their work lives. Whatever you hear, whatever happens, just respect them because you don't really know what's going on. They're human,' Callado added.Lagman echoed her sentiments and said, 'For me, the most important thing when you're in a love team is that you respect each other and be accountable. We grew up watching all these love teams. I totally agree with Hya, personal lives and work life are definitely different. So with us, we respect each other's personal life and we're always honest with each other.'With that, both actors are focused on keeping things real — on and off-screen. 'We don't force anything. Of course, we try to focus on the career, and if it's meant to be, it's meant to be. But what we do on-cam and off-cam is genuinely real because we want to be our best versions,' Lagman said about their relationship.'We're really just trying to focus on our work in giving out the best Sevi and Elyse, but I would say I feel a little bit more comfortable with Gab. So we're focusing on that,' added Callado. When asked if they feel pressured by fans to turn their onscreen romance into a real-life relationship, Callado said, 'All I can say is that it's understandable. I've been in their shoes, so I know what it's like. We really appreciate all the love that the fans give us. Personally, I don't think of it as pressure — I see it more as flattering.'Lagman agreed, adding, 'From the start, even before Chasing in the Wild, Hya and I have always been transparent with each other. We agreed that we want to bring out the best versions of ourselves first. If we force anything, we don't want it to affect our work. As much as possible, we try to be genuine, and we're focused on our careers for now'Catch the latest episode of 'Chasing in the Wild' every Friday, streaming exclusively on Viva One.
