MONTREAL, Canada — Atlanta United beat Montreal, 5-4, in a penalty shoot-out on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) after their MLS Cup wild card game ended 2-2 to set up a first-round playoff clash with Lionel Messi and Inter Miami.

Atlanta, who snuck into the wild card round on the final day of the regular season, led 2-0 at the break but two goals from their former striker Josef Martinez forced the game into the shoot-out.
