BACOLOD CITY — Classes in five remote barangay (villages) in the municipality of Calatrava in Negros Occidental were suspended by Mayor Marilyn Era on Tuesday after an encounter between Philippine Army (PA) soldiers and remnants of the New People's Army (NPA) led by Roger Fabillar.

The encounter took place at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday in Sitio Agtotogas, Barangay Winaswasan, Calatrava, as troopers belonging to the PA's 79th Infantry Battalion and operatives from the 1st Negros Occidental Police Mobile Force Company clashed with about seven NPA rebels.
