In piano and in sports

HEARING daily disheartening news from our various media, we keep our hopes on our young — our prodigies with exceptional talent contribute to improving our lot and that of others in the world. They serve as our inspiration. We have presented four of them: (1) Alessandra Storm Mauricio, "a 15-year-old Filipino American who is creating a buzz with her contributions to cancer treatment research; (2) Martinus Miguel, "a 12-year-old Grade 7 student from Richmindale Learning in Dubai, who demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication, earning him widespread acclaim" with his multiple awards at the World Championships of Performing Arts or WCOPA 2024 (The Global Filipino Magazine); (3) Xyza Cruz Bacani — a documentary photographer — once an OCW in Hongkong who earned a graduate degree from the prestigious NYU on a scholarship even without a college degree, also one of Magnum Foundation's Human Rights Fellows and one of BBC's 100 Women of the World 2015; and (4) Mikaela Irene Dimaano Fudolig, a physicist who began at age 11 her university education at UP Diliman. In 2007, at age 16, Fudolig graduated from UP Diliman with a bachelor's degree in physics, summa cum laude, and class valedictorian with a general weighted average of 1.099; then joined the National Institute of Physics faculty after graduation.
