ALL eyes — and ears — are on the House quad committee as it delves deeper into the war on drugs and extrajudicial killings (EJKs) during the Duterte presidency. Some observers feel that the marathon hearings are in aid of reelection rather than legislation, that the agenda and conduct of the hearings are maliciously and politically motivated.

That may be true to a certain extent. Yet, the quad committee has succeeded in peeling some of the layers of secrecy and lies, thus exposing the lawlessness orchestrated and perpetrated by people in power and position. The hearings have, among others, confirmed that members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) have been directly involved in EJK.
