JOVAN Medallo of the Philippines on Saturday won two gold medals at the Asian Kickboxing Championships in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas on Saturday announced that Medallo won the Musical Forms with Weapon and Musical Form Open Hand events, and even bagged a bronze medal at the Creative Form with Weapon event.

In his first event, with a score of 28.3, Medallo won the country's first gold medal of the tournament, with Taiwan's Chi Hsuan Yu coming in second and Chiu Ta-ting in third.

At the other event, with the score of 28.6, he again secured the country another gold, defeating Chi and Indonesia's Fatwa Ramadhan.

Meanwhile, Janah Lavador secured three bronze medals at the Musical Forms (both with and without Weapon) and Creative Form with Weapon events.

The pair were the first to take action in their respective finals.

"These incredible athletes continue to show the world the strength and skill of Filipino kickboxers," the POC said in a post congratulating the pair.

As of press time, the country has two gold and 10 bronze medals in the Asian Championships, with Whinny Bayawon, Renalyn Dacquel, Claudine Veloso, Lance Airon Villamer, Felex Dave Cantores and Daryl Chulipas also securing bronze medals earlier in the tournament, which runs from October 6 to 13.
