Since he was appointed Department of Agriculture (DA) chief last November 2023, Tiu Laurel has been vocal about his thrust to modernize the sector, increase productivity and reduce the country's reliance on imports, noting that the farm sector has continuously faced the persistent challenges of low productivity and competitiveness for the past three decades.
