Florida evacuations readied before Milton arrives

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hurricane Milton was moving 'erratically' through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida on Monday, the United States National Hurricane Center (NHC) said, warning that it was likely to become a major storm soon.

The Category 1 hurricane is the second recent storm to threaten Florida's coast, which was left reeling from Hurricane Helene's catastrophic winds and storm surge 10 days ago.
