YESTERDAY, October 7, marked the first year of the infamous incursion by Iran's proxy, Hamas, into Israel that has since sparked a seven-front war that's raging as I write this. It will forever stand as a grim reminder of terrorism's brutality, such as the infamous Ipil raid and the Battle for Marawi as standout examples here in the Philippines. The terror attacks targeted civilians and military personnel. It laid bare the horrific cost in terms of human lives and the fundamental disregard for the most basic principles of humanity.

Hamas rockets from Gaza rained down indiscriminately on Israeli cities, towns and villages, killing and injuring innocent civilians. Armed militants infiltrated Israeli communities near the Gaza border, killing men, women and children in their homes and even taking hostages to use as human shields or bargaining chips. Music festival-goers and entire families were executed, hostaged babies were reportedly burned, and women raped, including minors.
