Part 2 of two parts

IT was a dreary October day. But the dampness did not lessen the thirst for revenge nor dim the hate to which the mob had been lashed by the friars' words. Pouring out of the convents and churches, as well as the gloomy houses of the Walled City, they marched up the street to the governor's palace. They were led by Dominicans in black and white robes and Franciscans in brown habiliments. The friars also carried their holy banners, relics of saints, and crucifixes, which they raised aloft with shouts of 'The Church, religion, and the King!'
