IN news yesterday (Friday, October 4), it was reported that the Department of Transportation (DoTr), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Department of Energy (DoE) have partnered with aerospace giant Airbus for the conduct of a feasibility study on the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the Philippines. This is not an unwelcome development, as any potentially effective climate mitigation initiative should be explored thoroughly. However, there are some troubling questions regarding SAF and the planned study here, so the results that emerge should be viewed with a healthy amount of skepticism.
