Krathon makes landfall in south Taiwan

As deadly fire strikes hospital

(UPDATE) KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan — Typhoon Krathon made landfall in Taiwan's port city of Kaohsiung on Thursday, bringing torrential rains and fierce winds to the island's south, which has seen trees brought down, roads flooded, and schools and businesses closed.

The typhoon came after nine people were killed in a fire that ripped through a hospital in southern Pingtung County, and authorities said the intense weather made rescue operations there 'more difficult.'
