DISMISSED town mayor Alice Guo of Bamban, Tarlac, is now in police custody after leading the Marcos government in a wild goose chase for several weeks across and outside the country after she refused to be grilled in a Senate legislative inquiry. But her arrest in Tangerang City near Jakarta and her quick repatriation to Manila may have been inspired mainly by the Senate's bid, functioning as an investigative body, to acquire jurisdiction over her body, than by any specific warrant of arrest issued by any Philippine court.
Guo has been verbally accused of various crimes, from human trafficking to money laundering, to running illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs), to spying for the Chinese government and other crimes, but it is not clear what proofs have been adduced and what specific charges have been formally filed, for which the court has issued specific warrants of arrest. The government has not issued a full statement detailing all this.
