THE peso regained ground on Wednesday, rising back to P55:$1 territory, but the stock market succumbed to profit-taking and plunged to the 7,300 level.

The currency strengthened by 36 and a half centavos to P55.88 against the greenback while the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) plunged 69.59 points, or 0.94 percent, to end the day at 7,362.62.
