DATA breaches in the Philippines, where millions of personal information are stolen, have become a national security concern. These cybercrimes are likely not just isolated criminal activities but are increasingly linked to state-sponsored operations aimed at undermining the country's sovereignty.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported that 28 million personal data of passport holders may have been compromised because of the national printing office's negligence in installing cybersecurity protections. During the Senate finance subcommittee hearing, the DFA revealed that personal data of passport holders could be sold on the dark web. According to the Dark Web Index, passport information sells for $63 each and reveals personal identity and location.
