THE House has cut Vice President Sara Duterte's 2025 budget of P2.037 billion by 63 percent after declaring it had deferred action on it because she had refused to defend it in its budget hearing. Observers had assumed the matter would be left as it was until a win-win solution could be found to end the apparent impasse. But this did not happen; instead, the House instituted its gigantic cut, leaving Sara a mere 37 percent of her original outlay.
We have not heard from Sara as of this writing. Her last word on the budget was that she would leave the whole thing to the sound discretion and judgment of the House. Now the House has spoken, and she has said nothing. It is the same epic silence that accompanied her recent resignation as secretary of education.
