THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 6 is currently on heightened alert after the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued a warning of "eruptive unrest and an increase in the alert level" in response to Mount Kanlaon's seismic activity.

"As instructed by Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian, the DSWD is on high gear as our regional offices prepare for the worst, amid the volcanic unrest of Mount Kanlaon in Negros Oriental," Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said on Thursday.
