I HAVE repeatedly argued that it is inaccurate to blame all kinds of floods on deforestation and forest degradation. When low-lying urban centers are flooded, such may be caused by a high volume of rainfall falling on cement and on land that may have experienced subsidence due to the overdrawing of water by a growing demand from households, industry and commerce.
It is likely aggravated by clogged waterways that have been blocked by the development of infrastructures and/or by irresponsibly disposed garbage.
