NEW YORK — Jannik Sinner became the first Italian man to reach the US Open final on Friday (Saturday in Manila) while Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe battled to become the first American man in a Grand Slam final in 15 years.

Australian Open champion Sinner defeated an ailing Jack Draper of Britain, 7-5, 7-6 (7/3), 6-2, in the semifinals.
