CEBU CITY — After the discovery of an alleged Philippine offshore gaming operator (POGO) hub operating inside a hotel compound in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, the Police Regional Office Central Visayas (PRO 7) ordered the removal of Maj. Judith Besas as chief of the Marigondon Police Station.
This was confirmed by Lt. Col. Christian Torres, the information and administrative officer of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office, on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
While the official order has yet to arrive, Torres said they had received information about the impending replacement of Besas.
Torres said it is a standard procedure of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to relieve a station chief if a major incident occurs within their area of responsibility. This allows an investigation into any potential lapses in the chief's oversight.

The investigation will focus on whether the local police were aware of the POGO operations and what actions were taken.
If lapses are found, Besas could face administrative charges, Torres said.

However, if it is proven that she had no knowledge or involvement in the operations, she will be cleared of any wrongdoing.
