Berlin's currywurst turns 75

Berlin's currywurst — a specialty of sliced sausage smothered in curry powder and ketchup — turned 75 years old on Wednesday, September 4.
Of all Germany's 1,500 varieties of sausage, the currywurst is one of the most distinctive, often served on a paper plate with chips.
And even at 75, the saucy sausage is as popular as ever in the German capital with locals and international visitors both being fond of the traditional meaty dish.

Curry 36 opened in January 1981 and its customer Steffen Theil had been there many times as a child growing up in Berlin. Now he lives with his family in Stuttgart, but stops by the currywurst stand every time he returns to his hometown.
