THE global maritime industry is grappling with a series of severe crises, ranging from an environmental disaster in the Red Sea to strategic shifts in US naval operations and cyber vulnerabilities.

Dryad Global Maritime Security Threat Advisory reported that on Aug. 21, 2024, the Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion, carrying 150,000 metric tons of Iraqi crude oil, was attacked by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea.
