TWITTER, now known as "X," the social media network and plaything of the world's second-worst person, paper billionaire Elon Musk, has been blocked in Brazil by order of a Supreme Court justice. The ruling came after Musk ignored an order by the same judge to name a legal representative for Twitter (I refuse to call it "X") in the country. Besides being an entertaining instance of Musk being taken down a peg — something that does not happen nearly often enough — the action by the Brazilian court highlights long-simmering questions about the toxic influence of social media and the need to impose some level of practical regulation on them.

News reports about the controversy have characterized it as a personal feud between Musk and Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, which apparently stems from Musk's personal attacks on the judge in posts on Twitter over the past few weeks. What triggered the justice was Musk's disregard of his order to name a legal representative for Twitter in Brazil after Musk removed the previous counsel in early August. The judge gave Musk — or more specifically, Twitter — 24 hours to comply last Wednesday; when the deadline came and went with no response from the company or the ill-mannered yarpie who owns it, de Moraes ordered the social media network blocked in Brazil.
