ABOUT 130 Filipinos were among the 771 people who were arrested in Laos after a government crackdown on digital scamming operators earlier this month.
The scammers had been flourishing in a special economic zone that had long been suspected of harboring digital criminal activity. Aside from Filipinos, citizens of 14 other countries, mainly in Asia, had been recruited for cyber scam operations which are run by Chinese criminal syndicates.
