SHANGHAI — The Germany-based research firm Statista ranked Shanghai as China's richest city with a gross domestic product of 4.5 trillion yuan ($640 billion) in 2022 compared to Beijing's 4.1 trillion yuan ($590 billion).
With a population of 29.9 million, Shanghai is also China's biggest metropolis and the third largest in the world next to Tokyo and Delhi.
