PART of the luck of my life was the series of British Council (BC) scholarships given to me when I was in my 20s to 30s. In 1989, I received a BC scholarship to take my MPhil in Publishing Studies at the University of Stirling in Scotland.

I was qualified to take my master's in any of the bigger and grander universities, but I chose to take up publishing in Scotland to help rebuild the industry destroyed by the Marcos dictatorship.
