THE news of late has been gripped by matters here at home and in the US concerning the protection of national borders and immigration. The issues on the escape of the dismissed town mayor and Chinese national Alice Guo (and siblings), the continued Chinese aggression in the West Philippine Sea (the most recent ramming of their ships against Philippine vessels), and the reported openness of the US borders to illegal immigrants under the current administration seems to create a need for a better moral and intellectual reflection on the policies concerning border security (national sovereignty) and immigration, more particularly the treatment of immigrants.
The ongoing investigations and legislative inquiries into these matters must result in better security and policy guidance for the country, and it would serve us well to revisit once more what the Scripture has to say on border security and immigration matters. A true statesman in our country would definitely want to know more of what ancient wisdom in the Bible has to provide, especially considering that many of our leaders profess to believe in the Bible as God's Word.
