AS a frequent traveler, I'm often asked which is the best place to visit in the Philippines. My ready answer is always Bohol. It has the unique geological formation called Chocolate Hills, one of the smallest primates in the world, some of the most beautiful churches in the country, and some of the finest white sand beaches. Bohol also boasts of having one of the best tourism infrastructure in the country with a world-class airport, seaports, well-organized tour packages, and knowledgeable local guides.
But there's more to Bohol beyond the usual attractions: the province's longest white sand beach; the highest waterfalls; stunning rice terraces; and a "mystical island" where local healers still practice offerings to spirits for good fortune. These are waiting to be explored if you're willing to venture beyond the typical tourist trails and explore the hidden gems of Anda and Candijay, about 100 kilometers from Tagbilaran, on the eastern side of the island.
